Boating & Marina

Boats launch at Jordanelle State Park from Hailstone, which has an eight-lane main ramp and a separate personal watercraft ramp for jet skis, sailboats, kayaks and paddleboards. The Hailstone Marina has 80 lease slips, eight transient slips at $40 a night, ethanol-free fuel on the water and a pump-out. Every boat must complete a quagga mussel self-inspection before launching, and Utah State Parks says all Utah boating laws are strictly enforced. You can even camp on your boat for $40 a night.

Boat Ramps

The courtesy docks have a 15-minute limit for loading and unloading. Swimming, fishing, picnicking, sunbathing and camping are not allowed on the docks, and swimming inside the marina is prohibited (Hailstone).

Quagga Mussel Decontamination

To keep quagga mussels out, every boat must complete a self-inspection before launching. If your boat has been in contaminated water, including Lake Powell, you must meet the dry time or be professionally decontaminated: 7 days of summer dry time for simple boats such as sailboats and paddleboards, and 30 days for boats with ballast tanks or inboard/outboard motors, at any time of year.

Jordanelle's decontamination station runs Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., by appointment (call the main office), and Friday to Sunday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., first come, first served, with arrival by 5 p.m. Two people, the boat operator and the vehicle driver, are needed for the dip tank. In 2026 the station was scheduled to close for the season on October 11, weather permitting.

Boat Slips

The Hailstone Marina's 80 private slips come in four sizes:

Slips are awarded by random draw. Applications open online February 1 to 15, and a permit runs May 15 to October 15. Applicants who aren't drawn go on a free waitlist. Eight transient slips can be reserved up to four months ahead, for up to 14 days at a time, at $40 a night. Overnight boat parking is $30 a night.

Boat Camping

Camping on your boat costs $40 a night. The boat needs a marine toilet, must be anchored at least 40 feet off shore, and must show a 360-degree all-around white light while anchored (Camping).

Winter Boating

The main and PWC ramps are plowed through the winter until ice forms on the reservoir, with a seasonal wedge dock at both and a heated restroom at the top of each ramp. Docks and fish cleaning stations shut down as it gets colder.
